Films By Country
Austria “Die Letzte Wette / The Last Bet” (ca. 15 minutes).
This short film was made by a young filmmaker, Meike Wüstenberg, as part of her directing studies at the Film Academy Vienna. Is it really the last bet, with none to follow? If it is the last one, how many came before? The filmmaker wrote the screenplay herself, and although she is not the age of the two protagonists, much of her humor is woven into the dialogue. This short is a film about the final stage of life – one to be taken seriously, that lingers in the mind, but about which one can still laugh. The filmmaker hopes that her film will make people look forward to growing older! The two protagonists are both professional actors who have known each other for a long time but had never performed together before.
Germany “Echt / Real”
Frederik and Alis are succesful professionals and live in a beautiful home. Nonetheless, Alis is frustrated. She is annoyed that they are unable to make social connections. Even though they keep inviting couples to their home, none of their acquaintances ever turn into friendships. Out of her desperation, Alis is determined to stage the meet-and-greet evenings with the other couples perfectly. She even writes a script with all the details on how the evening should go. She also specifies what Frederik should do and avoid. Everything must go perfectly. But that evening, everything is different, and Alis has to face what she cannot plan.
Switzerland “Der Vegetarierkongress / The Vegetarian Conference”
At the International Vegetarian Congress 1999 in Widnau, St. Gallen, there is a serious food poisoning incident. When animation filmmakers Marion and Noah come across the story, they decide to revisit the mysterious case in an animated documentary film. But what can be discovered about the truth twenty years later?
